Case Study

The composition of the cover and sell lines in this Vibe magazine is inspiring as it is bold and would definitely catch the viewer’s eye when browsing. Not only this, but the use of colour is quite bright and eye-catching- depicting the 2000s style that my magazine is inspired by.

This cover by the source is also representative of the music genre that I would like to represent, along with the aesthetic of the cover as he is wearing a plain white tank top with diamond jewellery which was popular fashion for the late 90s and early 2000s in the rap industry. The image of the artist being in front of the masthead of the magazine makes him stand out and focus the audience’s view on him. Despite it having simple composition, it is still a strong cover.

This magazine cover is very iconic and fits exactly with my vision for the aesthetic of my second cover. As the name of my magazine is ‘Wave’, it has connotations of flow, sound waves and calmness. I did not want a stereotypical portrayal of rap with a busy or intimidating cover. This cover by Vibe magazine is iconic with a rather humble image of the artist ‘Tupac’ who was infamous for his statement and imprint on the rap genre.
