Past Work

My Past Work

Given a brief of a beauty product, I designed an advert of micellar water which is make-up. remover to challenge stereotypes and the norm of promoting products to change your appearance and fit the beauty standard. In this task, I had learned how to use PhotoShop for the first time and became familiar with the different tools and functions of them. In hindsight, I would have changed the layout of the advertisement but kept the colour scheme because I believe it goes well with the product. The slogan of the campaign is to 'discover the natural you', so it would have been ideal to have a an image with a bare-faced model without make-up to fit the brief of having a USP.

After this, to explore value transference and even more advertising, I designed an infographic on a collaboration between a celebrity and another product that I was also advertising. In this task, I believe I was successful in the value transference of the product and the celebrity with sufficient research behind the brand and the reasons why a collaboration between the two would be effective.

Also created my own version of a Big Issue front cover with a celebrity that I believe really represents the Big Issue's values.
I believe that this task was particularly successful due to the use of celebrity culture on the front cover and Stormzy's values that align with the Big Issue. The contrasting colours stand out well which are useful for street vendors and work well with the colours of the image.

As a response to the music video Sun Comes Down by Lil Nas X, I explored how to use iMovie to piece together a few scenes and make a short movie. I believe that the lip syncing was successful as it is a typical convention of popular music videos and the slow motion of the running at the beginning to create a relationship between the visuals and the lyrics. In future, I would use a variety of angles to give different visual aspects.

Initial Ideas

My initial ideas:

For my NEA I would like to do a music video with the theme of being a young adult/teenager. I would like it to have a coming of age feel to it with an overall joyous feel to it. I am drawn to the brief of a music video since I believe that it would allow me to explore and experiment with an array of different techniques and showcase my abilities through shot types, angles, location and editing. Despite not being a frequent listener of rock, through research and approaching the brief from a different angle, I believe I will be able to produce a successful music video.

I am still contemplating over which song I would like to do a video on and am not very familiar with the rock genre as it is not the type of music I like to listen to.

Upon initial thoughts, the songs that inspire me are:

Girlfriend-Avril Lavigne

I like the light-hearted theme of the song with the edgy and grungy feel to it.

Sk8er Boy- Avril Lavigne

I think the narrative of the song would be interesting to play with.

OT Bop (rock version)- NSG

I think the group went out of their comfort zone and changed their usual genre of music that they go for.  The rock remake of the song changes its dynamic completely and would be fun to film with a group of young black adults to break stereotypes.

Angels Like You - Miley Cyrus

This song would be more solemn and explore a broken- heart narrative which could involve more experimental angles and perhaps a surreal theme.
